Already 50 years ago, Papert saw Computer Science and Programming as a critical subject for children. His seminal article Teaching Children Thinking was presented at the World Conference on Computer Education in Amsterdam in 1970, and was re-published in the United States 10 years later by Teachers College Press, in Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education, 5(3/4), 1980. Some of my favorite quotes are:
– “I cannot think about thinking without thinking about thinking about something.”
– “The fundamental ingredients of educational innovation must be better things to do and better ways to think about oneself doing these things…Computers play a key part in mediating a change in the criteria that govern what kinds of knowledge are valued in education.”
